Board foot calculator

Figure your board feet.

Lumber and timbers on one side, logs on the other. We cut true dimension, so a 2x6 here is a full 2 by 6, and the math below works the same way we figure it at the mill.

The quote button carries your list over to the quote form so you don't have to type it twice. We can't cut under 8 feet on the mill, and anything over 20 feet long or 12 inches wide depends on the logs we have, so call or send it over and we'll tell you.

How it works

A board foot is 12 by 12 by 1.

Thickness in inches, times width in inches, times length in feet, divided by 12. A 2x12 that's 12 feet long is 24 board feet. An 8x8 that's 10 feet long is about 53.

Big box lumber is sold by nominal size, so their 2x6 is really 1-1/2 by 5-1/2. Ours is cut true dimension, which means you get every bit of the wood you're counting.
